{My Life} My Lovely Little Blog and BYW Bootcamp

I don't know if you guys have noticed (I'm quite certain many of you have), but my blog has been a little sparse lately.  I'd love to blame it on the fact that it was summer and I was busy, but in all actuality I really was just lacking motivation and inspiration.  To be honest, I didn't really like the direction Serendipitous Things was going, and it was starting to become a chore to write posts.  I know a lot of you aren't bloggers, but I'm sure you can relate what I'm about to say to other situations in life.  I found myself constantly comparing myself to other bloggers out there.  Wanting, wishing, that I could be as interesting and talented as them.

Being the ocd person that I am, I was desperately trying to make my blog fit into what I thought was the "perfect blog" formula...structured, organized, and oh so commercial.  It's like I had it in my head that it had to read like a magazine or something.   Serendipitous Things has been lacking a very important thing, MY voice.  I've tried so hard to make it "perfect," that you don't really see me in my posts at all, and as result, it ended up being boring and blah.  So, I'm turing over a new leaf, and going forward I'm going to try really hard to just be myself on here.

The timing of my little epiphany couldn't have come at a better time because today I'm starting Blogging Your Way Bootcamp.  I've taken pretty much all of the BYW classes at this point (Holly is amazing!), but I feel like this one is coming at a different time for me.  I'm not a rookie blogger anymore, not that I'm a pro, but I feel like I know more about what I want to get out of blogging this time around.  I'm going to dive in head first this next month, and hopefully it'll bring some great improvements to my lovely little blog.

I hope you all have a fantastic week!

  1. Hi Jessy! I know what you mean. I'm in class too right now, though I'm not sure what direction my blog is going to take in the future. I just can't seem to get with as frequent a blogging schedule as most people, and maybe that's OK!

    1. Hi Heather! I personally feel like it's better to blog less with better, more meaningful content than to blog a bunch of so so content. I think it will take longer to get a big following, but then the ones who are there will like you for you.

I'll see you around BYW Bootcamp. Good luck! :)

  3. Hey Jessy! Thank you for convincing me to participate in the bootcamp, I'm excited! Glad to see you there as well Tina! My blogging partner fell off the radar months ago, which is fine, it was always my vision and my baby, but now I just need some inspiration to stay motivated! So I totally hear ya!

    1. Hey Ashley! I'm so glad you decided to sign up! :) Sorry to hear about your blogging partner, but you will definitely be fine. I love reading your blog! It's always very entertaining (and informative)!

  4. This bootcamp sounds like a great way to get re-inspired. I'll admit that while I do follow a handful of those "perfect" seeming blogs, I find most of them boring-- maybe not visually, but in written content. Losing your voice in the process of attempting to appeal to the masses ultimately benefits no one, so good for you for making a change. You can do it!

    1. Hi Nicole!

I think the place I've ordered from the most is Happy Tape (http://www.etsy.com/shop/happytape). Otherwise usually I just buy it in various stores in my area.

I hope you have lots of fun in Bootcamp! :)

  7. Hi Jessica, Im enrolled in BYW also. I am inspired by your honesty in this matter. I took Holly's last class as well and learned so much, but was lacking the motivation at that point in my life. Something in me changed this past month as well. Im so ready to jump in feet first! It is really nice to hear someone else had a similar experience with lack of motivation and inspiration. Hope to "see" you around the forum! Good Luck! Your blog is adorable!

    1. Thank you so much Lauren. It actually a little hard to talk so honestly because it left me feeling a little exposed. I'm really glad I did though. It's been really nice to see that I'm not the only one who has those issues!

Good luck to you too! :)

  13. So great to be taking this class with you.
I love that Holly encourages us NOT to compare ourselves to others. :)

  14. Just read your post and I can relate. This year I decided to blog about my card designs and it's my first blog ever. It is pretty overwhelming to consistently post something, especially since I'm creating new designs from scratch each time. I'd love to know more about that class, I haven't come across it yet. By the way, your blog is great and inspiring. :)

    1. Thank you so much Shiva! The good news is it gets easier...the bad news it then it gets harder again. :) I go through moments where I have lots to say and I'm super inspired, but then I get writers block again and feel uninspired. You should definitely think about taking a Blogging Your Way e-course they are awesome. Here is the link: http://decor8blog.com/ecourses/ .
